Redlands Awarded the 2023 Sustainable School of the Year

Redlands Sustainability
Redlands has won the Sustainable Schools NSW School of the Year award for the outstanding contributions Redlands has made to environmental education. Sustainability is a key strategic driver in the Redlands Strategic Plan and is embraced by the executive leadership team, students, staff members and our wider community. The NSW Environmental Education Awards occur annually and aim to recognise and celebrate the achievements of environmental educators across NSW.

Redlands has provided a leadership opportunity with the appointment of two Environment Captains in Year 12, Year 6 and two Sustainability Captains in Year 2. A Sustainability Working Group was established at Redlands in 2021, where 14 staff members, a board director and executive sponsor, along with the Environment Captains (Years 6 and 12) meet each term to discuss sustainability at the school. Redlands also have a Sustainability Community Advisory Group. This group encompasses parents who are actively working in the sustainability field, who we approach to discuss large scale projects and get advice from our community experts.

In relation to Teaching and Learning, Redlands have curriculum programs from preschool-year 12 that focus on various aspects of sustainability, such as recycling, renewable energy and a circular economy. Student involvement in all sustainability initiatives is a key factor in further educating the next generation about sustainability.
