Year 12 Leadership Induction Assembly
The Redlands Year 12 Leadership Induction Assembly marked an important milestone for the Class of 2027 as students prepare to enter their final year of school and take on their roles as the senior student leaders of our Secondary School.
Held in Dunnet Hall, the assembly provided an opportunity to pause and reflect on the responsibility that comes with leadership, the legacy of previous student cohorts and the contribution each student can make to the Redlands community.
Leadership is About Service
Addressing the cohort, Principal Sean Corcoran shared an important message: leadership is not defined by a title, position or badge. Rather, it is demonstrated through the way we serve others and the choices we make every day.
As the most senior students in the Secondary School, every Year 12 student has a role to play in shaping the culture of Redlands. Whether holding a formal leadership position or leading through everyday actions, students have an opportunity to set an example for those who follow them.
This reflects the principle of servant leadership, which places the needs of others at the heart of leadership. It calls on students to approach their responsibilities with humility and to recognise the influence they have on the people around them.
Building on a Legacy
Redlands has a history spanning 142 years, and each graduating cohort contributes to the story of the School. The Class of 2027 now has the opportunity to build on the foundations established by generations of students before them.
Reflecting on the importance of school traditions, the Principal shared a line from Irish poet Seamus Heaney: “We pine for ceremony, customary rhythms.”
These moments of ceremony give our community the opportunity to recognise significant milestones and consider how individual contributions connect to something greater. For the Class of 2027, the assembly marked the transition into their final year and the beginning of a new chapter in their leadership journey.
With this opportunity comes responsibility. The decisions students make, the example they set and the way they support their peers will help shape the experience of those around them, both during their final year and beyond.
Leaving Redlands Better than we Found it
The Principal concluded with a message that continues to resonate across the School: leave it better than you found it.
For the Class of 2027, this means approaching their final year with a sense of purpose and recognising that leadership is measured not simply by what is achieved individually, but by the positive difference made to others.
As our Year 12 students step into their roles as senior leaders, they have an opportunity to strengthen the Redlands community and establish a legacy for the students who will follow.
We look forward to seeing how the Class of 2027 embraces this responsibility throughout their final year at Redlands.
