Following the opening of the Redlands Learning Hub in 2020, significant alumni were identified in order to acknowledge and celebrate their contribution in alignment with each of the respective faculties within the building.

Level 1: Innovative Design and Visual Arts is named in honour of Ellice Nosworthy, Class of 1915, a pioneer Australian Architect.

Ellice Nosworthy attended Redlands in the Senior School, graduating in 1915. She was the inaugural School Co-Captain, along with Vida Sams, and was awarded Dux of Redlands. An outstanding sportswoman, she won the NSW Schoolgirls Tennis Doubles Championship with Vida Sams and was a founding member of the Basketball team, and a founding member of the Literary and Debating society.

Ellice was one of the first two women to graduate in Architecture from the University of Sydney, being in the fledgling faculty’s first year intake in 1918. Upon graduating in 1922,  Ellice initially worked with Waterhouse and Lake, before launching her own architectural practice. Over her fifty-year career, Ellice had a significant influence on housing and building design in Sydney.
