Scholarships

2022 Scholarships are now open for students entering Years 7 and 11 in 2022. 

Redlands Scholarships are awarded to students who are passionate about joining our learning community and will make a significant contribution to the life of the School. Scholarships are in high demand at Redlands and we especially welcome applicants who choose us as their first preference when applying through ACER.

In 2022, we will be offering the following Scholarships:

Scholarship candidates in all categories must sit an examination to be considered for a scholarship. The examination is conducted as part of the Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program (CSTP) administered by the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER).

If candidates apply for more than one category, there is only one online registration required but separate application forms and portfolios for each category must be submitted directly to Redlands as per the instructions below.

Academic Scholarships 

Academic Scholarships are offered for Years 7 and 11. These are offered to students with proven academic excellence, an exemplary work ethic and the ability to make significant contributions to the life of the School.

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • They are awarded as a result of the ACER CSTP test.
  • A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Academic Scholarship application form.
  • Scholarships do not cover textbooks, uniforms, excursions, technology fees or individual subject fees.

Candidates will only be required to fill in a Redlands Application for Enrolment should they be offered a scholarship.

Merit/All-Rounder Scholarships

Merit Scholarships are offered for entry to Years 7 and 11 to students with the ability to make a positive and significant contribution to the life of the School, have an exemplary work ethic, strong academic potential, are willing to participate in cocurricular activities and are socially aware.

These scholarships are awarded as a result of ACER testing, invitation to interview, performance and/or audition.  

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • They are awarded as a result of the ACER CSTP test.
  • A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Merit / All-Rounder Scholarship application form.
  • Scholarships do not cover textbooks, uniforms, excursions, technology fees or individual subject fees.

Candidates will only be required to fill in a Redlands Application for Enrolment should they be offered a scholarship.

Music Scholarships

Music Scholarships are offered for entry to Year 7. Scholarships are awarded as a result of ACER testing, interview, performance by invitation in one instrument of choice and results in examinations in music at level of competence. 

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Music Scholarship application form.
  • For 2022 there will be a specific focus on strings (viola), woodwind (clarinet and bassoon) and brass (French horn and lower brass), however other instrumentalists and vocalists are also invited to apply.
  • Music auditions will be held on Friday 19 February 2021.
  • The following list should be used as a general guideline only to minimum levels of expected performance:
    • Piano – AMEB Grade 5 Equivalent
    • Strings – AMEB Grade 5 Equivalent
    • Percussion – AMEB Grade 5 Equivalent
    • Brass – AMEB Grade 3 Equivalent
    • Voice – AMEB Grade 3 Equivalent
    • Woodwind – AMEB Grade 3 Equivalent
  • Scholarships do not cover textbooks, uniforms, private tuition, excursions, technology fees or individual subject fees.

Candidates will only be required to fill in a Redlands Application for Enrolment should they be offered a scholarship.

Ballet Scholarships

  • Ballet Scholarships are offered for entry to Year 7. They are awarded as a result of audition, the ACER testing and interview by invitation.
  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Ballet Dance Scholarship application form.
  • Ballet auditions will be held on Friday 12 February 2021 in the form of a dance class. No preparation is necessary but portfolios must be in by midday Friday 5 February (prior to the audition).
  • Scholarships do not cover textbooks, uniforms (school or dance), private lessons, excursions, technology fees or individual subject fees.

Candidates will only be required to fill in a Redlands Application for Enrolment should they be offered a scholarship.

Timeline for 2022 Scholarships

Friday 5 February 2021: Ballet portfolios due by midday
Monday 8 February 2021: Online ACER applications will close at midnight
Friday 12 February 2021: Ballet auditions 
Monday 15 February 2021: Academic, Merit and Music portfolios due by 4.00pm
Friday 19 February 2021: Music auditions
Saturday 27 February 2021: ACER test held at Redlands, 9.00am-12.00pm
March/April 2021: Shortlisted candidates interviewed, scholarships offered
Friday 2 April 2021: Results available for parents to view online

Scholarship Fees

Australian Applications

 A fee of $115 is paid online for Scholarships. This application fee allows you to apply for multiple scholarships at Redlands. 

Overseas Applications

A fee of $315 is paid online for Scholarships. This application fee allows you to apply for multiple scholarships at Redlands.

Closing Dates for Australian and Overseas Applications

  • Online registrations close at midnight on Monday 8 February 2021.
  • Portfolios for specific scholarship categories (Academic, Music and Merit) must reach Redlands by 4.00pm on Monday 8 February 2021.

Scholarship Conditions 

  1. In all awards the Principal reserves the right to offer portion scholarships or to make no award at all.
  2. Scholarships are subject to annual review on the basis of the scholar’s performance over the year. Normally scholarships will continue to apply for the stated duration of the scholarship.
  3. A scholarship is provided for either full or part remission of tuition fees for the duration of the scholarship.
  4. A scholarship does not provide for payment in purchase of books, materials, uniforms and other day to day standard items of school requirement or activity. Costs of excursions and other incidentals are not included.
  5. Scholarships are not transferable and apply only to the recipient’s education.
  6. A student who already holds a Redlands Part Scholarship, may not apply again for a scholarship except on a demonstrated “needs” basis.
  7. A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  8. Decisions communicated by the Principal are final. No correspondence will be accepted or entered into.

Portfolios

Portfolios are requested for students applying for all scholarships. Please mail (don’t email) them as loose leaf copies in an A4 plastic sleeve, not in folders. If applying for more than one scholarship, please submit separate copies for each application. Note: Portfolios will not be returned.

Award and Review

Redlands scholarships are awarded after the successful completion of the individual Scholarship application process. Acceptance of an Offer will require a Redlands application and payment of the $3,000 non-refundable enrolment fee confirming acceptance of the scholarship.

All scholarships are reviewed annually during an interview with the Deputy Principal. If the scholar is continuing to contribute to the life of the School and is making outstanding progress, their scholarship will be renewed.
