Year 11 2020 Means-Tested Scholarships

2021 Scholarships

Redlands Scholarships are awarded to students who are passionate about joining our learning community and will make a significant contribution to the life of the School. Scholarships are in high demand at Redlands and we especially welcome applicants who choose us as their first preference when applying through ACER.

In 2021, we will be offering the following Scholarships:

  • Academic: Years 7 and 11
  • Merit/All-Rounder: Years 7 and 11
  • Music: Year 7
  • Ballet: Year 7

Registrations for 2021 Scholarships will open on Tuesday 3 September 2019 and close at midnight on Monday 10 February 2020.

The 2021 Scholarship Exam will be held on Saturday 29 February 2020 from 9am-12pm. 

Scholarship candidates in all categories must sit this examination to be considered for a scholarship. The examination is conducted as part of the Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program (CSTP) administered by the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER).

If candidates apply for more than one category, there is only one online registration required but separate application forms and portfolios for each category must be submitted directly to Redlands as per the instructions below.

Academic Scholarships 

Academic Scholarships are offered for Years 7 and 11. 

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • They are awarded as a result of the ACER CSTP test.
  • A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Academic Scholarship application form.

Merit/All-Rounder Scholarships

Merit Scholarships are offered for entry to Years 7 and 11. These scholarships are awarded as a result of ACER testing AND relevant interview, performance and/or audition.  

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • They are awarded as a result of the ACER CSTP test.
  • A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Merit / All-Rounder Scholarship application form.

Music Scholarships

Music Scholarships are offered for entry to Year 7. Scholarships are awarded as a result of ACER testing, interview, performance by invitation in one instrument of choice and results in examinations in music at level of competence. 

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Music Scholarship application form.
  • For 2021 there is a specific focus on strings (viola and cello) and woodwind (clarinet and bassoon) however other instrumentalists and vocalists are also invited to apply.
  • Music Auditions will be held on Friday 21 February 2020.
  • The following list should be used as a general guideline only to minimum levels of expected performance:
    • Piano – AMEB Grade 5 Equivalent
    • Strings – AMEB Grade 5 Equivalent
    • Percussion – AMEB Grade 5 Equivalent
    • Brass – AMEB Grade 3 Equivalent
    • Voice – AMEB Grade 3 Equivalent
    • Woodwind – AMEB Grade 3 Equivalent

Ballet Scholarships

  • Ballet Scholarships are offered for entry to Year 7. They are awarded as a result of audition, the ACER testing and interview by invitation.
  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Ballet Dance Scholarship Application form.
  • Ballet auditions will be held on Friday 7 February 2020 in the form of a dance class. No preparation is necessary but portfolios must be in prior to the audition.

Timeline for 2021 Scholarships

Friday 7 February 2020: Ballet auditions

Monday 10 February 2020: Online ACER applications will close at midnight and all Academic, Merit and Music applications and supporting documents are due at Redlands by 4pm. 

Friday 21 February 2020: Music auditions

Saturday 29 February 2020: ACER test held at Redlands, 9am-12pm

March/April 2020: Shortlisted candidates interviewed, scholarships offered

Friday 3 April 2020: Results available for parents to view online

March/April 2020: Shortlisted candidates interviewed, scholarships offered 

Scholarship Fees

Australian Applications

 A fee of $115 is paid online for Scholarships. This application fee allows you to apply for multiple scholarships at Redlands. 

Overseas Applications

A fee of $315 is paid online for Scholarships. This application fee allows you to apply for multiple scholarships at Redlands.

Closing Dates for Australian and Overseas Applications

  • Online Registrations close at midnight on Monday 10 February 2020.
  • Application forms and supporting documents for specific scholarship categories (Academic, Music, Merit, Dance) must reach Redlands by 4pm Monday 10 February 2020.

Scholarship Conditions 

  1. In all awards the Principal reserves the right to offer portion scholarships or to make no award at all.
  2. Scholarships are subject to annual review on the basis of the scholar’s performance over the year. Normally scholarships will continue to apply for the stated duration of the scholarship.
  3. A scholarship is provided for either full or part remission of tuition fees for the duration of the scholarship.
  4. A scholarship does not provide for payment in purchase of books, materials, uniforms and other day to day standard items of school requirement or activity. Costs of excursions and other incidentals are not included.
  5. Scholarships are not transferable and apply only to the recipient’s education.
  6. A student who already holds a Redlands Part Scholarship, may not apply again for a scholarship except on a demonstrated “needs” basis.
  7. A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  8. Decisions communicated by the Principal are final. No correspondence will be accepted or entered into.

Portfolios

Portfolios are requested for students applying for all scholarships. Please mail (don’t email) them as loose leaf copies in an A4 plastic sleeve, not in folders. If applying for more than one scholarship, please submit separate copies for each application. Note: Portfolios will not be returned.
