Scholarships

In 2020, we will be offering the following Scholarships:

  • Academic: Years 7 and 11
  • Merit/All-Rounder: Years 7 and 11
  • Music: Year 7
  • Ballet: Year 7

Registrations for 2020 Scholarships will open on Monday 3 September 2018.

The 2020 Scholarship Exam will be held on Saturday 23 February 2019 from 9am-12pm. 

Scholarship candidates in all categories must sit this examination to be considered for a scholarship. The examination is conducted as part of the Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program (CSTP) administered by the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER).

If candidates apply for more than one category, there is only one online registration required but separate application forms and portfolios for each category must be submitted directly to Redlands as per the instructions below.

Academic Scholarships 

Academic Scholarships are offered for Years 7 and 11. 

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • They are awarded as a result of the ACER CSTP test.
  • A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.

Merit/All-Rounder Scholarships

Merit Scholarships are offered for entry to Years 7 and 11. These scholarships are awarded as a result of ACER testing AND relevant interview, performance and/or audition.  

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • They are awarded as a result of the ACER CSTP test.
  • A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Years 10 and 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants must also complete the Merit / All-Rounder Scholarship application form.

Music Scholarships

Music Scholarships are offered for entry to Year 7. Scholarships are awarded as a result of ACER testing, interview, performance by invitation in one instrument of choice and results in examinations in music at level of competence. 

  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants also completed the Music Scholarship application form.
  • For 2020 there is a specific focus on strings (viola and cello) and woodwind (clarinet and bassoon) however other instrumentalists and vocalists are also invited to apply.
  • Music Auditions will be held on Friday 22 February 2019.

Ballet Scholarships

  • Ballet Scholarships are offered for entry to Year 7. They are awarded as a result of the ACER testing, interview and audition by invitation.
  • They may be Full or Part Scholarships.
  • In addition to registering for the ACER examination, applicants also completed the Ballet Dance Scholarship application form.
  • Ballet auditions will be held on Friday 8 February 2019.

Timeline for 2020 Scholarships

Monday 4 February 2019: Online ACER applications close at midnight and all Merit, Music and Dance applications and supporting documents are due at Redlands by 4pm. Late applications will not be accepted.

Friday 8 February 2019:  Ballet auditions

Friday 22 February 2019:  Music auditions

Saturday 23 February 2019:  ACER test held at Redlands, 9am-12pm

Thursday 4 April 2019:  Results available for parents to view online

March/April 2019:  Shortlisted candidates interviewed, scholarships offered 

Scholarship Fees

Australian Applications

 A fee of $115 is paid online for Scholarships. This application fee allows you to apply for multiple scholarships at Redlands. 

Overseas Applications

A fee of $315 is paid online for Scholarships. This application fee allows you to apply for multiple scholarships at Redlands.

Closing Dates for Australian and Overseas Applications

  • Online Registrations closed at midnight on Monday 4 February 2019.
  • Application forms and supporting documents for specific scholarship categories (Music, Merit, Dance) must reach Redlands by 4pm Monday 4 February 2019.

Scholarship Conditions 

  1. In all awards the Principal reserves the right to offer portion scholarships or to make no award at all.
  2. Scholarships are subject to annual review on the basis of the scholar’s performance over the year. Normally scholarships will continue to apply for the stated duration of the scholarship.
  3. A scholarship is provided for either full or part remission of tuition fees for the duration of the scholarship.
  4. A scholarship does not provide for payment in purchase of books, materials, uniforms and other day to day standard items of school requirement or activity. Costs of excursions and other incidentals are not included.
  5. Scholarships are not transferable and apply only to the recipient’s education.
  6. A student who already holds a Redlands Part Scholarship, may not apply again for a scholarship except on a demonstrated “needs” basis.
  7. A current Redlands student cannot apply for a scholarship into Year 11, except on a demonstrated “needs” basis. This will involve means testing.
  8. Decisions communicated by the Principal are final. No correspondence will be accepted or entered into.

Portfolios

Portfolios are only requested for students applying for Merit, Dance or Music scholarships. Students applying for the Academic Scholarship will need to submit portfolios only if shortlisted. Please submit them as loose leaf copies in an A4 plastic sleeve, not in folders. If applying for more than one scholarship, please submit separate copies for each application. Note: Portfolios will not be returned.
