The Redlands Transition Class program is a 5 day a week program that caters for girls and boys and offers a hybrid between our Preschool and Kindergarten programs. Located on the Preparatory School campus, the Transition program offers a nurturing and dynamic program. A variety of indoor and outdoor learning spaces are designed to engage students in wondering, questioning and discovering.

The Redlands House program is inspired by Reggio Emilia principles. This approach values the rich potential and deep curiosity of each child and acknowledges that children are natural inquirers. It builds on children’s innate ability to construct meaning by interacting with their environment.

To enable children to have the best start at school, the focus for Transition class is teaching each child the necessary skills to enable independence at school. Children are provided with experiences, resources and support, which will assist them to develop respect for others, a positive sense of themselves, social skills and a desire to learn.

Our Transition program recognises the importance of the formative years in children’s development. We strive to create a balance between guided investigations initiated by the interests of each child, questions they have about the world and teacher planned activities.

Teaching and Learning

An approach to teaching and learning that values inquiry, collaboration and active learning begins in the Transition Class program. Students are encouraged to become active learners. They work collaboratively with teachers and peers to plan, investigate and explore areas of interest.

The Transition program offers a hybrid between our Preschool and Kindergarten programs. Following the Early Years Learning Framework and the Early Stage One outcomes of the Australian Curriculum. Explicit teaching of concepts and skills, in both literacy and numeracy, is integrated into our program.
