From the ski fields of Mt Buller to the athletics track at Sydney Olympic Park, September has been a month of sporting success for Redlands students.

At the 2017 Australian Interschool Snowsports Championships, the 35-strong Redlands Snowsports team qualified for the Nationals, and took out 43 top 10 places, winning four gold, five silver and five bronze medals.

The title of National Champion was awarded to the gold medallists – George Murphy in Division 3 Boys Moguls, and the Division 1 Boys Snowboard, Division 3 Boys Moguls and Division 4 Girls Moguls teams.

Then last Wednesday, it was the Redlands Track and Field team who put their skills to the test, representing the Independent Schools Association (ISA) at the NSW Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Championships.

The 26 Redlands students were awarded 13 medals – six gold, two silver and five bronze – with gold medals being awarded to:

  • Alexandra York (Yr 9) for her 11.58m winning jump in U14 Girls Triple Jump
  • Thomas Corel (Yr 12) in U18-19 Boys 200m and 400m
  • John Economides (Yr 11) in U17 Boys 400m
  • Ellis Teudt (Yr 10) in U16 Boys 100m with an impressive time of 11.43 seconds
  • Michael Moore, Oskar Persson, John Economides and Ellis Teudt for the Open Boys 4x100m Relay, continuing their season in scintillating form.

Redlands Principal, Dr Peter Lennox said that the students’ performances on the slopes, track and field were the result of hard work, passion and dedication.

“On behalf of the School I’d like to congratulate all of our Redlands athletes – their remarkable results were achieved within highly competitive fields,” said Dr Lennox.

“This is also a celebration of the countless hours and efforts our students have spent training and refining their technique and skills.

“A special congratulations to our Year 12 Athletes, who competed in their final event for Redlands on their very last day of school, and we commend their commitment to Redlands Track and Field.

“I must also acknowledge to our Year 5 skiing sensation Daisy Thomas, who received the prestigious 2017 Under 11 Athlete of the Year Award from NSW Freestyle Snowsports, in addition to leading her team to victory at the Nationals Snowsports Interschools.

“At Redlands we encourage our students to pursue academic excellence alongside their extra-curricular passions, and it is wonderful to see our students achieve these outstanding results.”
