Redlands Students Shine on the Gala Arts Stage
There were over 60 excited students who showcased their incredible talents for the Redlands Gala Arts Festival at The Concourse, Chatswood on Friday 26 May.
With Dance, Drama and Music all integrated, the institution of Redlands Gala Arts Festival amazed fellow students, teachers and parents alike with 23 incredible acts taking to the stage to compete across four categories: Vocal, Instrumental, Theatre and Dance.
Much more than a school talent quest, Gala Arts has become the Arts equivalent to the School Swimming and Athletics Carnivals – combining school spirit with a healthy dose of competition.
This year’s Guest Judge, Redlands alumna and E! News Australia presenter Ksenija Lukich, selected the overall winning performance and winning house with four other recent Redlands Alumni judges.
The 2017 winners showcased impressive talents, notably the youngest winner, Lauren Zhang, a Year 7 student who performed Sonatine III Anime by Ravel on piano.
Year 10 students took out both the Dance and Vocal categories, Chloe Church for her performance to Schindler’s List, and Poppi Kent’s rendition of Gravity.
Noah Pincini won both the Theatre category and was named Overall Winner for his piece, I Have Nothing, and for the fourth year in a row, Roseby House was victorious.
“The Gala Arts Festival is always an incredible opportunity for our performing arts students to demonstrate their talents, and it is a night in our school calendar that is always a favourite,” said Redlands Principal, Dr Peter Lennox.
“It is always wonderful to see the talents of our students showcased, from Year 7 to Year 12, from virtuoso instrumental performances to captivating dramatic pieces.
“It’s also important to recognise that Gala Arts is more than one night and I congratulate the hundreds of students who took part in the auditions, and those helping behind the scenes.
“Congratulations to all our students who took to the stage on Friday and especially to the winners. it was a highly enjoyable evening to see all those exceptional talents shine.”
