Overview
- In
the Winter Term of each school year, Redlands offers interested
students the opportunity to combine their academic lessons
with an intensive and high quality programme of on snow training.
- At the Schools High Country Campus in Jindabyne the academic
programme is stringent and close links are maintained
with Redlands teaching staff in Sydney through the use of
appropriate technology.
- The programme allows students to follow their full Academic
Curriculum through a programme of lessons, tutorials
and study sessions throughout the week. Ski and snowboard
training occurs at Thredbo.
- Although skiing and snowboarding provides the major physical
focus for the programme, it is in the development of
self-discipline, self-motivation and personal organisation
that the real benefit lies. Students benefit enormously from
a combination of the lessons learned on the mountains slopes
with the steep learning curve created by ten weeks of independent
living.
- Redlands hosts the Redlands Cup annually at Thredbo and
competes in both the NSW Championships and the National Championships.
A Unique Opportunity
- Redlands Winter School was established in 1995
and is a truly unique educational opportunity, offered
by no other school in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Tailored to
the needs of individual students, this programme provides
the opportunity for students to experience part of their
education at the School's High Country Campus at Jindabyne
in the Snowy Mountains, New South Wales.
- While ensuring
uninterrupted continuity of students academic priorities,
it provides the further opportunity to add true balance
to their education.
- The Redlands Winter School helps students
gain an appreciation of the fragile natural environment
of the Snowy Mountains region as a World Biosphere Reserve.
At the same time it promotes physical and mental fitness
in the context of skiing and snowboarding skills, enabling
students to train to championship standard.
