2012 Art Prize

Redlands is excited to announce the winners of the Redlands Westpac Art Prize 2012:
Ben Quilty the winner of the main prize was awarded $20,000 for his work Dad and Kelly Doley who won the emerging artist prize for her work The Learning Centre: 46 Things Learnt About Humans was awarded $10,000. With these two winning artworks joining the School’s collection, we will now have 24 exceptional pieces of a wide range of artwork not only as an in-house teaching aid for our students but to bring joy and interest to all who work and visit Redlands.
Redlands presents the Prize in conjunction with the National Art School. The NAS has been at the centre of Sydney's art scene for almost a century, and has nurtured the talents of generations of artists, who have studied and worked in studios within the walls of the old Darlinghurst Gaol. The NAS Gallery encourages appreciation and critical perspectives of art and its role in society through direct engagement with artists and original works of art. The Gallery provides a context for the understanding and interpretation of historical and contemporary practice for the enjoyment of the public and the NAS communities of students, staff and alumni.
With its location in the centre of Sydney's art world and its exceptional gallery facilities we will be raising the profile of the Redlands Westpac Art Prize to another level and we believe that the unique synergies that exist between the NAS and Redlands will benefit our students and the wider community for some time to come.
Our 2012 curator was the respected contemporary artist Lindy Lee. Lindy was a previous winner of the Prize and also curated the exhibition in 2010. She selected a diverse and exciting range of contemporary artists to exhibit:
