Redlands - Let your light shine

Learning Plus - Extension

Redlands Learning Plus program ensures the more highly capable students are stimulated and challenged through Academic Extension programs. This is additional to the differentiated programming that occurs within regular classroom activity, where academically able students are further extended by course work.

In Years K and 1, academically advanced students are monitored and in Years 2-6, there are extension groups for these students held 2-3 times per week in English and Maths.

They also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs:

  • Gifted and Talented Camp
  • Tournament of Minds
  • Da Vinci Decathlon
  • GERRIC Courses

In Years 7-12 we seek to extend the academically highly capable students through extension courses and acceleration, particularly in the areas of Mathematics, Languages and Ballet & Dance.

Two further extension activities are undertaken by all students:

  • Tutor Task - a year long project where Year 9 students are accelerated into self-directed learning and independent research through participation in an online learning program and one-on-one mentoring. This develops extensive research skills to prepare students for extended essay in IB and three and four unit programs in HSC.
  • Australian Business Week - this is an extension program in Business Studies, Commerce and Economics where all Year 10 students work in teams to develop and market their own product and are mentored by parents from the business world.
