Redlands - Let your light shine

Teachers

"Redlands for me, is all about the people. The beautiful children who I teach each day, the positive relationship that is established with the parents and the enthusiastic, friendly staff with whom I work with and learn from. In Redlands, I have found a place where teaching is not a job, it's a passion. Making learning fun and working with each individual to develop their natural talents is of key importance to inspire your students to reach for the stars. Students knowing that they have your full support in whatever they attempt and knowing they can come to you for anything is very comforting for them. Having students draw pictures with "I love you Mrs Freebury" written across it, is the most special possession a teacher can possibly have."

Leisha Freebury, Kindergarten Teacher

"Redlands is a school that values each student for their individual talents. As a result the students support and encourage each others performances whether that be on the sporting field, in Music or the Visual Arts, on stage, in Literacy, in Mathematics or in the Sciences. I think it's important to build students' self-confidence. If students feel confident they take risks and try new things, they try harder and extend themselves. That's how you learn. The way we teach today encourages students to become life long learners and to think in different ways. The students find the curriculum motivating and the activities interesting. If you're passionate about what you are teaching the students pick up on it and are inspired by your enthusiasm."

Belinda Oxley, Year 2 Teacher

"Our Kindergarten students are learning to be inquirers, communicators, thinkers, knowledgeable, risk-takers, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced and reflective. I believe strongly that developing these skills will help prepare our students for when they eventually leave school. I also encourage the children to think creatively. I use a variety of tools to help develop thinking skills in my students. We also have lots of fun! The children's work is valued and our classrooms have vibrant displays of this work."

Kylie Angus, Kindergarten Teacher

"Redlands has a unique culture in that very rarely in a school are all sections of the school from Early Childhood right though to Secondary School seen to become one journey for students. I expose my students to many different styles, genres, techniques, instruments and skills in music in an effort to allow them to become educated musicians. I believe performance opportunities are important for students to be able to express themselves.  Performances also leave students with a feeling of self satisfaction and pride. My relationship with students is respectful, fun, safe and full of positives!  We have a wonderful time in class and every student is made to feel their contribution is valued and accepted by myself and their peers."

Ingrid Shaw, Early Childhood Music Teacher
