Redlands - Let your light shine

Junior School

Redlands Junior School provides an environment for students from Years 3-6 which builds upon emerging independence and self-motivation. Students are encouraged to take risks and accept greater responsibility to enable them to ultimately make a smooth transition to Secondary School.

In a warm, caring atmosphere that is conducive to learning, we aim to provide a learning environment that best suits the individual needs of each child and builds a responsible, self-disciplined, concerned and outward-looking school community in which each student has freedom to grow.

Opportunities are provided for students to develop their individual talents and to gain some insight into the many possibilities their world will hold for them.

The energy and enthusiasm of our students can be seen in every facet of each day at Redlands. As students more through to our Secondary School they take with them a love of life and learning and a senses of pride in themselves and their school.

A Supportive and Stimulating Environment

Students are encouraged to explore their emerging independence and changing reliance on parents and adults. They learn to:

  • accept greater responsibility
  • value learning
  • become aware of themselves as learners
  • become more reflective about the learning process
  • most importantly, become self-motivated, independent learners

Pastoral Care

Co-operation, interaction and friendship amongst the students is promoted; the achievements of individuals and groups are recognised and the students' sense of belonging and self-worth is nurtured. Class Teachers, Year Co-ordinators and the Head of Junior School are assisted by a School Counsellor to ensure the well-being of each student.

Individualised Program

The Junior School recognises that each child is special and unique, and each has different strengths, weaknesses and learning styles. Within the classroom, each child is given the opportunity to work at their own level of ability with personalised programs rather than standard workbooks and materials.

Qualified staff give children with special needs additional assistance on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. More able children are also well-catered for through small groups and a mentor program for the truly exceptional students.

Home School Partnership

We believe that students achieve their potential and make the most of their learning experiences when home and school work closely together in partnership. In Junior School we aim to foster the natural development of a close relationship between school and family.
