Service Opportunities
There is a strong Service culture at Redlands, where students learn that it is possible to make a positive difference in the world. Students are encouraged to take part in service activities to enrich their knowledge of themselves and the world around them.
Simply learning facts about human rights, poverty, animal rights or environmental degradation does not involve challenging basic values.
Service programs encourage students to learn both through experience and thoughtful reflection on that experience. They learn how they interact with their world and what is really important for themselves and the others they serve.
Service programs start at Early Childhood and continue through to Year 12. Students support a range of Australian charities including:
- Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal
- Red Cross Appeal
- Breast Cancer - Mother's Day Fun Run, Pink Ribbon Day
- Canteen - Bandanna Day
- The Cancer Foundation - Daffodil Day
- Juvenile Diabetes - Jelly Bean Day
- CMRI - Jeans for Genes Day
- Starlight Foundation - Make a Wish
- Foundation for Youth - Literacy backpack project for Indigenous Australians
In a global context, students from Years 10-11 can join the School's social and cultural trip to Cambodia and Vietnam where they work with several NGOs:
- Tabitha Foundation where they build houses for the poorer families on the outskirts of the town
- M'Lop Tapang Centre for Cambodian street children, an NGO established by Redlander John McGinley
- Roetang Orphanage in Phnom Penh.
Redlands students also provide support to the School of St Jude in Tanzania, sponsoring four students at the school.
