Pastoral Care
Pastoral care at Redlands is the ethos, values and mission of the School in action. It is being committed to fostering a learning environment, which is safe and caring and promotes emotional well-being and learning – an environment in which each student feels valued.
We aim to ensure that school life is a positive, meaningful and rewarding experience and direct the energies of the School towards the holistic development of each student, recognising that each individual should be affirmed, valued and challenged.
Pastoral care is both implicit and explicit in the school environment. Implicit pastoral care is evident when caring teachers engage in good education. Everyday situations provide opportunities for implicit care eg. assessment of projects, sports, cultural events, classroom discussions and interactions with parents.
The explicit pastoral care program is delivered by Class Teachers and Year Co-ordinators, who are assisted by a two School Counsellors and two Chaplains (one on each campus) to ensure the well-being of each student.
The effectiveness of our Pastoral Care program is demonstrated when:
- the notion of partnership underpins all school relationships with students of all ages working towards interdependence rather than independence or dependence
- students develop self-confidence, high self esteem and a commitment to personal excellence based on a positive set of values and respect for the values of others
- students develop a sense of responsibility both to self and to the wider community
- students take responsibility for their actions, develop skills for managing their lives and possess social competence that enhances the quality of their lives and the lives of others.
