Redlands International Baccalaureate (IB) students have proven their dedication to their studies well worth it with the release of their IB results today.

The 70 IB students achieved exceptional results, with some 30 per cent achieving an ATAR of 98 or above, 60 per cent an ATAR of 95 or above, and 80 per cent receiving an ATAR of 90 and above.

Top performing students Charlie Rodgers and Lori Zhou both received the outstanding result of 44 out of a potential 45, equating to an ATAR of 99.85.

Charlie studied English, Mathematics, Biology, Latin, Spanish and History. She commenced at Redlands in Preschool, and in Year 12 was a Prefect, Captain of Debating and Captain of Strings. She also represented the school in Sailing, Hockey and Cross Country. Charlie is hoping to study International Relations and Psychology at the University of Melbourne, or the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

Lori undertook English, Mathematics, Economics, Environmental Systems, Mandarin and Geography in her IB Diploma. She has been at Redlands since Year 7, and participated in Choir, Concert Band and Orchestra, as well as representing the school in Debating, Basketball, Netball and Cross Country. Lori is hoping to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University, or Commerce and Law at the University of Sydney or University of NSW.

Dr Peter Lennox, Principal of Redlands, congratulated the IB students.

“Congratulations to all our IB students on their fine achievements,” Dr Lennox said.

“The IB course is rigorous and challenging, and this cohort has dedicated themselves to their studies.

“Today is a wonderful occasion for students, family and the school community to celebrate both our IB students, and also their fellow HSC students who received their results in December last year.

“Charlie, Lori and the rest of the Class of 2017 have worked exceptionally hard, and I congratulate them all, and wish them the best in their future endeavours.”

Approximately half of each Redlands Year 12 cohort studies the IB, with the other half studying the HSC, and around the same number of girls and boys in each. This year, 70 Redlands students undertook the IB.
